Maurice Lewis Miller, 90 of Hanover, IN passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Terry Anderson in Lexington, INMr. Miller was born on September 21, 1926 in Elkhart, IN the son of Clarence Albert and Caroline M. Hunker Miller. He was the youngest of 12 children. He quit high school to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during W.W. II and fought at Iwo Jima in the 5th Marine Division. Later he was called up for the Korean War and served at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Mr. Miller met his wife at Elkhart Business College from which they both graduated. Maurice was a Public Accountant, owning his own business for 33 years in Cincinnati, Ohio with his partner of Miller-Koenig Tax Accountants. Maurice was active at the state level and was a co-founder of the Ohio Society of Enrolled Agents. Maurice and his wife retired and moved to Madison, IN for 15 years to be near their daughter Jan. In 2008 they moved to Bellingham, Washington to be near their daughter Maryse. In 2012, they returned to Hanover and became members of Hanover United Methodist Church and Maurice became a member of the Madison American Legion Post #9, was an avid woodworker and enjoyed listening to organ and piano music.Survivors include his daughters, Jan Anderson(Terry) of Lexington, IN and Maryse Jill Sagewynd(Gregory Book) of Orcas Island, WA; grandchildren, Jason and Mary-Lena Kikta and their children Andrew, Ben, Nathan and Elizabeth; Josh and Melissa Kikta, and their children Mikko, Zeke, Heikki; Jennifer and Doug Marshall, and their children Mielle, Avianna, Davian and baby girl due soon; Sarah and Evan Roush, and their children Brody, Lilah, Caroline; Evan and Jennifer Kikta and their child, Isaac. There are also two step-grandchildren: Bill Anderson, Brad and Lee Ann Anderson, and their children, Brandon, Brandi and her daughter Albion, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marianne Miller on July 10, 2015, two sisters Jeanette and Kate; four brothers John, Bill, Ralph and Richard; two half-sisters and threehalf-brothers.Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Hanover United Methodist Church with Burial in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Grayson Funeral Home in Hanover and after 10:00 A.M. Friday until the time of services at the Church. Madison American Legion Post #9 will conduct Military Graveside Services.
