William J. Moore

Bill passed away peacefully at home September 5, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born September 12, 1935 in Cullman Alabama but moved to Indianapolis, IN. with his family at age 20 months. Shortly after graduating from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, he joined the Air Force and served in Japan and Korea following the Korean War. After the service, he went to Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. getting a Business Degree in 1960 followed by a Doctor in Jurisprudence from the Indiana University Law School in Indianapolis, IN. in 1965. After 7 years of practicing law, Bill began his career in Investment Counseling and was still actively employed in investments with Stifel Nicholas & Co. at the time of his death.
Growing up in financially hard times, Bill had a large route delivering papers in grade school and then during high school, worked nights at a dairy and played football and baseball. Bill enjoyed working hard and providing for his family. His favorite thing to do was to treat family and friends when eating out!
He was a member of the Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #226, Lions Club, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1427, past member of the Charlestown Library board and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Charlestown.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Edith Moore, his step-mother Laura Moore, his brother Quinton and his sisters Pauline Rush and Mary Cain.
His is survived by his wife of 47 years, Deanne Witten Moore, his children Rebecca Putman (Harold) of Lexington, Ky., his sons Brett Moore (Amanda) of Charlestown and David Moore (Amy) of Huntington, NY. Bill is adored by his nine grandchildren: Cody, Esther, Emily Putman, Kristen, Drew, Courtney, Brady, Lily and Taylor Moore. He is also survived by his two sisters Dorothy Sternberg (Jerry) and Betty Brammon (Hollis), Indianapolis. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, his brothers and sister-in-laws and many other relatives and friends.
