VIRGINIA ABBOTT, of Charlestown, 100, died on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
She was born March 4, 1920 in Clark County, Indiana to Claudius Henderson and Celia Cory Henderson Abbott. She was married to Hiram Abbott on September 25, 1937 in Greensburg, Indiana, who proceeded her in death in 2001.
She retired from ICI Army Ammunition Plant where she worked in the sewing room.
She had a heart for everyone and always put everyone's needs before her own. She was a life-long member of Community Presbyterian Church in Charlestown; 74 year member of Clark County Extension Homemakers; Eastern Star Charter Member serving as Chaplain for many years. She organized the Community Presbyterian Church's Women's Circle 63 years ago, which is still active today. She would plan vacations around Women's Circle events not to miss a meeting or planned activity. She was an avid gardener taking great pride in her beautiful flowers and banana trees. She dearly loved fishing with her husband, Hiram, and looked forward to their yearly vacations to Kentucky Lake where they would bring home a large mess of crappie which she would fry and invite friends and family to enjoy. Most of all she loved gathering with family and friends over a large meal she had prepared.
She was proceeded in death by one son, Everitt Ray Abbott; brothers: William, Walter, Kenneth, Joseph, James (Jimmy) and Claudius and sisters: Vada, Viola, Vivian, Viva, and Delcia.
She is survived by a daughter, Carmen Kesack, Sellersburg; one brother, John R. Abbott, Lexington, Indiana and one sister, Martha Righthouse, Nabb, Indiana; four grandchildern: David Ray Abbott, Sr. (Cheri), Charlestown; Hiram Edward Abbott, Louisville; Lucy Hein, New Washington and Jeffrey Culver, Louisville; seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Due to newly updated Federal, State and Local mandates concerning the Coronavirus, Virginia’s Funeral Service and Visitation will be Private. The family would like to invite you to join them by following the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2020 on the Facebook page of Grayson Funeral Home.
