Verl Barton, 95, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at Beehive Assisted Living in Scottsburg, IN.
He was born on December 17, 1916 in Lexington, AL to James and Mary (Rogers) Barton. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Blazing Star Masonic Lodge # 226. He was a equipment mechanic for the Naval Ordnance, and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hortense Barton; brothers, Frank and Clifford; sisters, Dezzie, Dorothy, Nell, and Waymon.
Survivors include his sons, Donald Barton of Charlestown, IN, and Kenneth Barton of Charlestown, IN; daughter, Betty Hill of Charlestown, IN; brother, Howard Barton of Montgomery, AL; sisters, Elaine Fly of Columbia, TN, Violet Boswell of Franklin, TN, and Goldie Farrelly of Brentwood, TN; 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 1pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, with burial to follow in the Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1pm to 8pm, and after 9am on Thursday.
Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
