Velma E. Comingore, 85, of Madison formally of Greensburg, IN passed away on September 23, 2011 at Thornton Terrace Nursing Home in Hanover, IN after a brief fight with cancer. She was born May 9, 1926 to the late Emmett and Mae King Burke. She married Leonard Comingore on August 21, 1946 and he preceded her in death in May 1990. She was a member of the Wirt Baptist Church.
She worked for many years in the Greensburg School System as a secretary until her and Leonard retired to the Hanover area in 1985. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards and spending time with her family and grandkids.
She will be sadly missed by her close companion of several years Robert Kirkpatrick of Madison, three sons: Michael of Indianapolis, Roger (Donna) of Rushville, IN, and Gary (Nola) of Auburn, Maine. She also had 7 grandchildren: Alaina, Annette, Kasey, Elizabeth, Zoe, Eli, Avery, 2 great grandchildren Natalie Rivera and Riley Twaddle, 2 step grandsons Brad (Lisa) Sizemore; Greg (Carrie) Sizemore, 3 step great grandchildren Kara, Adam, and Alex Sizemore. She also has two surviving siblings Martha Boggs of Madison, IN and Norbert Burke of Pekin, IN along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents and three sisters Helen Watkins, Ruth Woodard, Jean Thorpe, one brother Wyatt Burke and a daughter in law Pam Comingore.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 26 at 11:00AM at Grayson Funeral Home in Hanover with burial to follow in New Prospect Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7PM and again on Monday beginning at 9am until the time of the service. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society and the Wirt Baptist Church.
