Ulysses "Dutch" Jenkins, a cherished husband, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on February 18, 2026, at the age of 90 in Louisville, KY. Born on March 15, 1935, Dutch was not only a man of great character but also someone who lit up the lives of those around him with his warmth and kindness.
Dutch dedicated a significant part of his life working at the ICI powder plant as a gunpowder bagger. He approached his work with a sense of pride and determination, qualities that endeared him to both colleagues and friends. Many will remember him for the way he called everyone "partner," making each person feel valued and special within his presence.
A proud veteran, Dutch served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959, achieving the rank of Airman 2C. His time in the military shaped him into the good man he became, always carrying a smile and a caring spirit throughout his life.
Dutch was not only devoted to his career and service but was also passionate about his interests. He loved to bet on the horses and frequently visited Church Hill Downs, sharing this joy with those close to him. His education began at Bethlehem School, which laid the foundation for a life marked by respect for knowledge and community.
Family was everything to Dutch. He was the proud husband of Ora Lee Jenkins for 68 wonderful years, embracing every moment they shared together. He is survived by his beloved nieces, Mary (Barry) Weddle and Kathy (Kenneth) Sizemore, along with nephew Gary (Betty) Purlee and several great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness.
Dutch joins in eternal rest his beloved wife, Ora Lee; his twin brother, David Jenkins; and his other siblings, BK Jenkins, Lum Jenkins, Grant Jenkins, and Linda Craigmile. Each of them had their own unique impact on Dutch's life, and his love for them will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Bethlehem Cemetery in Bethlehem, IN, beginning at 1:00 PM.
As we remember Ulysses "Dutch" Jenkins, we celebrate a life well-lived, one characterized by unwavering love, genuine kindness, and a deep commitment to family and friends. He leaves behind cherished memories and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
