Tressa "Babe" Stephens, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on May 14, 1933, in Avella, Pennsylvania, to Hungarian immigrants, John and Julia Horvath Koller. Tressa was the youngest of 11 children, a role that shaped her warm and caring nature.
Known for her infectious smile and laughter, Tressa radiated joy that she loved sharing with those around her. Her father affectionately gave her the nickname "Babe," a testament to her endearing personality. Over the years, Tressa developed a wide array of hobbies that brought her immense satisfaction, including crochet, quilting, working board puzzles, and playing softball, where she showcased her pitching skills well into her 40s. She found joy in competitive bowling and continued to participate in the sport into her 80s.
Tressa had a special fondness for the outdoors. She cherished fishing trips with her sons and husband, as well as tending to her flower gardens, which reflected her nurturing spirit. One of her favorite pastimes was mowing grass, a simple yet enjoyable activity she relished throughout her life.
Tressa is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Rita "Lynn" Hoffman (Mike) of Charlestown, Indiana, and her two sons, William "Billy" Stephens Jr. (Kim) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Richard A "Rick" Stephens (Kyra) of Charlestown, Indiana. Her legacy also continues through her grandchildren: Brooke McNatt (Shane) of Louisville, Kentucky, Ryan Hoffman (Kayla) of Charlestown, Indiana, Laura Murphy (Chris) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Brandon Stephens (Jessica) of Charlestown, Indiana, and Ariel Dickeson (Jeremy) of Charlestown, Indiana. Further enriching her life were her great-grandchildren: Sloane and Saylor McNatt, Dawson and Hudson Hoffman, Amelia Murphy, Eleanor and Haddie Stephens, and her cherished chihuahua, Zoe.
Tressa was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, William A. "Bill" Stephens Sr., and her 10 siblings: Rose, Julia, Mary, John Jr., Frankie, Steve, Louie, Joe, Irene, and Katy.
Tressa's Family would like to recognize the entire staff at Autumn Woods Health Campus, especially the individuals who loved and cared for her on Legacy Lane. They are special people that truly have a servant's heart. The family also extends their deepest gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care, kindness, and support.
