Thomas Morris Simms, age 73, of Charlestown passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. Catherine Regional Hospital.
He was born February 7, 1939 in Springfield, KY to George Thomas and Margaret Elizabeth White Simms. He was a Captain for Volunteers of America in Detroit, MI for 20 years where he was a former member of the Eagles Lodge. Mr. Simms was a member of the Charlestown American Legion Post #335, served in the U.S. Marines for 8 years and enjoyed collecting music for his library and loved his family especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Lee Whobrey Simms; daughters, Tina Haudek, Detroit, MI, Tammy Pearson, Malissa Flanagan, Norma Smith and Mary Simms all of Charlestown; sons, Robert Simms, Kansas City, MO, Donald Simms, New Albany, IN, Michael Simms, Columbus, OH and Kevin Simms, Charlestown; brother, Gene Simms, Charlestown; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Simms Kallie and brothers, John Henry Simms and Sanford “Buster” Simms.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday from 2 to 8 P.M. and after 9 A.M. Friday until time of service.
