Terry Newton, a dedicated educator and cherished member of his community, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Sellersburg, Indiana. Born on August 9, 1937, in Springfield, Kentucky, Terry devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of the lives of countless students as a retired teacher and principal at Pleasant Ridge and Jonathan Jennings Elementary Schools within the Greater Clark County School System.
Terry’s impactful career in education was marked by his passion for nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning. As he shaped the educational journey of many children, he instilled in them values that extended beyond the classroom walls. His commitment to education remained unwavering throughout his career, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues, students, and parents alike. He was a proud member of First Baptist Church in Charlestown.
Outside the classroom, Terry was known for his zest for life and appreciation for simple pleasures. He enjoyed vacationing in the Smoky Mountains, where he found solace and joy amidst nature. On weekends, he could be found supporting his beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats. In the comfort of his own home, Terry liked to watch a good golf tournament or in the evening he would catch the lates episodes of "Dancing with the Stars," or the "Voice" while occasionally treating himself to a slice of his favorite peanut butter pie.
Terry's legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his son, Rick Newton, and his wife, Susan; daughter, Michele Newton; brother, Barry N. Newton; sister, Linda Newby; grandchildren, Daniel Newton and Rebecca McKee; and his great-grandchildren, June Newton, Jackson Newton, and Grace McKee. Terry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel Mae Singleton Newton, who passed away in January of this year, as well as his parents, Joseph Franklin and Frances Mattingly Newton.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana. This will be followed by a funeral service on the same day at 7:00 PM, also at Grayson Funeral Home. Terry Newton will be remembered not only for his contributions to education but also for the warmth and kindness he shared with all those whose lives he touched.
