Steven Lane Bower, 72, of New Washington, Indiana, passed away on December 15, 2023, after an eight-year battle with dementia.
Born on July 15, 1951, to Ernest Bryan and Fern Virginia (Dean) Bower. He grew up and spent his entire life in New Washington, Indiana, graduating from New Washington High School and marrying his high school sweetheart, Gail Rivers on January 18, 1969. Steve was employed over the years at McDonald’s, Bremner Biscuit, and Haas Cabinets before landing at Ford Motor Company, where he retired in 2007.
Steve was an avid sportsman who loved being outdoors. Whether hunting for deer, turkey, squirrel, or even morrell mushrooms, Steve was at home in the woods. He also took an interest in ballistics and reloading ammunition and tinkering with CB radios. In his later years, Steve enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and especially his great-granddaughters. He also found joy in handing out treats to his beloved dog, Gauge.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Fern Bower, and his brother, Douglas Bower. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail (Rivers) Bower; son Bryan (Pam) Bower of Charlestown, IN; daughter Stephanie Carver of New Washington, IN; granddaughter Bridgette (Brad Franklin) Bower of Lexington, IN; grandsons Dalton Carver of New Washington and Dylan (Shaylon Kannapel) Carver of Lanesville, IN; great-granddaughters Hadley, Adalyn, and Arlee Franklin and Everlee Renn.
Visitation will be at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington on Tuesday, December 19, 9:30-2:00 pm. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Steve’s nephew, Kris Smith.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support through this difficult time, especially Steve’s sister-in-law, Betty Bower, and the extended family who walked alongside them during his illness. They would also like to thank Pastor Joel and Sandra Almaroad, Pastor Eric and Christine Mossman, and the Grace Baptist Church family for their encouragement and care. Donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Family would like to invite everyone to a meal at the Trinity Presbyterian Community Building following the services.
