Stella Juanita Oglesby, the thirteenth child of Roy and Stella Green Oglesby, was born May 7, 1934 in Watson, Indiana. She transitioned from this life on October 1, 2023.
Juanita graduated from Corydon Porter High School, decided upon a career in nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Through the years she worked at the Red Cross, Clark Memorial Hospital, the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, Clark Nursing Home and Wedgewood Nursing Home.
She was a very caring and loving person with a house as big as her heart. Juanita shared her heart and her home through the years opening her home to approximately 20 foster children and eventually adopting two sons and a daughter. Not only did she open her home to foster children but she always had an open door for family members who needed a place to stay whether temporarily when they visited from out of town or permanently if circumstances warranted. In her later years she would provide end of life care for several brothers and sisters and daycare for great nieces and nephews.
Juanita loved adventure and travel and she had the opportunity to enjoy cruises and road trips with her sisters. Some of their trips included visits to the Caribbean Islands, New Orleans, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Jersey and Minneapolis. She also participated in social and civic organizations; she was a member of the NAACP and the Order of the Eastern Stars Jericho Chapter #7. Her church home for the majority of her life was St. James United Methodist Church until 2009 when she followed her son Anthony to Wesley United Methodist Church where she remained until her death.
Waiting to welcome Stella Juanita into heaven are her parents; her siblings Louise Oglesby Hurdle, Robert Oglesby, Margaret Oglesby Taylor, Winston Oglesby, Richard Oglesby, Allen Oglesby, Louis Oglesby, Benjamin Oglesby, Helen Oglesby Stum, Edward Roland Oglesby, Mary Oglesby Huggins, Franklin Oglesby and Mabel Oglesby Scrivener; and two sons, Shaquan Oglesby and Shamar Oglesby.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister Mildred E. Oglesby-Heath, daughter Christle M. Oglesby and son and caregiver Anthony (Tony) Oglesby, two grandchildren, Devonte and Destiney; a bonus son, Jamie D. Hutchinson and a host of nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews. That is a life well lived and loved.
“Well done good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord!”
