Sidney Lee Nighbert

In Memory of

Sidney Lee Nighbert, 96, of Mooresville, formerly of Plainfield, passed away March 15, 2014.  He was one of 5 children and was born April 15, 1917 in Hanover Township, Jefferson County, IN to the late Shirley Lee and Lulu Sutherland Nighbert.  Lee grew up working on the family farm.  After marriage, he worked at Yunkers Pearl Packing in Madison, IN.  From 1943-1945, he served in the Army Air Corps as a hydraulic specialist on the B-29 Super Fortress with the 870th Bombardment Squadron 497th Bombardment Group serving stateside and on the island of Saipan.  Later he worked for C. A. Roberts Steel Tubing now known as EMJ, retiring in 1982.  His retirement careers included a lawn service and finally driving for National Car Rental until he was 90.  Lee was a long time member of the Plainfield Christian Church
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Sara A. Noell Nighbert, last October; an infant daughter, Olive Dyann; three sisters, Ruby Gassert, Thelma Long, Agnes Rowlett and a brother Carl Nighbert.  Lee is survived by four children; Judy Newman(Jim) of Flint Michigan, Alta Linthicum of Del City Oklahoma, Russell Nighbert(Barbara) of Mooresville, Indiana, and Noell Nighbert(Blee) of Plainfield, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Visitation will be at Grayson Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, March 20th from 2 pm to 3 pm.  Graveside services will be held at New Bethel Cemetery at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Nighbert may be made to the New Bethel Cemetery.  Cards will be available at the Funeral Home.
