Listen to Obituary

Saundra Lorraine Johnson, 90, was born January 14, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, daughter of the late Bessie Ford Walls. She departed this life on January 25, 2026.

Saundra exemplified a life of unselfish giving and was a prominent member of the community. She was involved with many organizations including the Red Hat Society and NAACP, and she volunteered for many years at the Kentucky Performing Arts, as well as Actor's Theater, winning volunteer of the year on multiple occasions. In addition, Saundra donated generously to multiple charitable causes during her lifetime.

Saundra was a dedicated worker. She was employed with Colgate Palmolive Company in 1977, as a factory worker, then as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1998.

Saundra loved the Lord and was a long time member of Second Baptist Church alongside her husband of 40 years, Reverend Donald Johnson, who preceded her in death. Saundra would also fellowship at numerous churches in the Charlestown and Jeffersonville area, always happy to be in the house of the Lord heading up the Easter or Christmas children’s programs.

Saundra enjoyed multiple hobbies, crocheting blankets, hats, dresses and socks for anyone who was expecting a baby. Cooking delicious meals for family and friends during the holidays brought her joy. Everyone was welcome, and Saundra's strawberry and carrot cake brought us happiness. Saundra certainly loved her extended family, and we loved her. Saundra loved going on vacations and cruises with her family and did so for many years. She also had a passion for reading and knew the scriptures well.

A loving caring mother and devoted friend to all, she leaves to cherish her memory, sons Steve Wilson, Reverend Garry Johnson, and Dwayne Mason (Nanette); daughters Karen Wilson, Bessie Banks (Michael) and Yolanda Mason; grandchildren Tiffani Banks, Courtney Tutt (Korey), Cassaundra Middleton (Melvin), Callie Johnson, Tony Johnson, Caleb Atchinson, Joshua Atchinson, Owen Atchinson, Ebony Sullivan, Diamond Johnson; great grandchildren Korea Tutt, Kingston Tutt, Korey Tutt Jr, Ayira Middleton, Faven Middleton, Cree Middleton, Je'Mo Middleton, Madyson Bonner, Marcus Bonner, Malcolm Carlisle, Layton Bower, LeAngela Sullivan, Draconian Bline, Devereaux Bline and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

Saundra was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Johnson, daughter Gretchen "Dutch" Wilson, son Jerry Johnson and grandson Dominic Bonner.

Saundra was the last of five siblings to depart this earth. She was preceded by Edward F. Hardin, Sr., Marvin L. Hardin, Reverend John Hardin and Iris Boyd.
