Sandra "Sandy" Marie Smiddy, a beloved tax accountant and enrolled agent for the IRS, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 20, 1953, Sandy’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, career, and community. She will forever be remembered for her incredible kindness, loyalty, and honesty.
Sandy’s educational journey was a testament to her determination and resilience. A proud graduate of Assumption High School, she furthered her studies at the University of Louisville, balancing the demands of raising a child and making a home for her family while attending school at night. This accomplishment stood as one of her proudest milestones, reflecting the depth of her commitment and work ethic.
Throughout her career as a tax accountant and enrolled agent for the IRS, Sandy not only excelled professionally but also took immense pride in her work. Her integrity and dedication were evident in every aspect of her role. Yet, it was her role as a mother and wife that shone most brightly in her life. Described by those who knew her as an incredible mother and wife, she was fiercely devoted, always placing the needs and happiness of her loved ones at the forefront.
Sandy was known for her gentle spirit; she never had a bad word to say about anyone and was regarded as one of the kindest and most charitable people. Her heart was full of love for her family and friends, and her warmth touched everyone she met. Among her cherished interests were making homemade gifts, nurturing her garden with zinnias planted each summer, and delighting in the simple beauty of yellow butterflies. She found joy in the sunshine and the tranquility of lakes, places where she felt most at peace.
Her legacy of generosity continued even in passing through her decision to be an organ and tissue donor, giving life to others in her final act of kindness.
Sandy leaves behind a loving family who will treasure her memory dearly. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne J. Smiddy; her daughter, Jennifer P. Morgan; her sister, Christine Motsch (Pat Morgan); her brother, William Motsch (Shawna); her step-granddaughter, Rebecca Smiddy Hiner; and her stepmother, Diana Motsch. These cherished family members carry forward her spirit and the profound impact she had on their lives.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Motsch; her father, William A. Motsch Sr.; her sister, Cynthia Motsch Bragg; and her stepson, Michael Wayne Smiddy.
Sandra "Sandy" Marie Smiddy’s life was one marked by love, perseverance, and kindness. She will be forever missed by her loved ones and remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation to honor her life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home, 206 East Main Street, New Washington, Indiana 47162.
