Samuel Thomas Beard

Samuel Thomas Beard, 66, of Charlestown, Indiana passed away on Monday morning February 17, 2025, at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.

He was born on September 6, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, to William and Dorothy Dunn Beard. Sam served 41 years in corrections, 28 of those years as Jail Commander at Clark County Sheriff's Office and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office. In 1995, he was awarded the Indiana Sheriff’s Association’s Corrections Officer of the Year award. Sam also enjoyed weightlifting and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Heil.

Sam is survived by his daughters, Morgan Marie Taylor and her husband Jeff, and Jacklyn Nicole Berkley and her husband Jonathan both of Charlestown; sister, Theresa Miles of Lebanon, Kentucky; and his grandchildren, Devin Berkley, Jaxson Berkley, Jayden Berkley, Cadence Berkley, Cydney Berkley, BJ Berkley, Cameron Berkley, and Dean Taylor; along with the mother of his children, Starlena Curry Williams, and her husband Larry

Life Celebration services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 am at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, beginning at 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
