Ruby Evelyn Burnette Stillhammer Hunter

Ruby Evelyn Burnette Stillhammer Hunter, 96, of Hanover passed away Saturday at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born October 21, 1917 the daughter of Thomas and Cora J. Lowry Burnette in Scott Co, IN. She was a retired 4th grade teacher at Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover. She is a graduate of Hanover Collage, class of 1960, where she earned a degree in elementary education. She was a member of Hanover Baptist Church, the Retired Teachers Association of Jefferson Co, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  Mrs. Hunter was an avid reader since childhood, enjoyed gardening, canning, camping, and fishing.  She loved writing poetry, and had 2 of her poems published.  She enjoyed all of the students in her 4th grade classes, and her greatest joy was spending time with family, laughing, and singing.

Survivors include her daughter Sharon Hurst of Lexington, KY, son John W. Stillhammer of Hanover; step-daughter, Mary Lou Leisure (Ron) of Kokomo, IN; step-son, Mike Jacobs of CA; grandchildren Harold Glenn Hurst III (Megan Gilvn) of Winchester, KY and William Richard Hurst of Beijing, China/Lexington KY; step-grandchildren, Wendi Hopewell (Del) and Steve Leisure; and one great grandson Silas Gilvin Hurst as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her first husband William H. Stillhammer, second husband Robert J. Hunter, brother Charles Marvin, sister Hester L. Burnette Turner, and her son-in-law Harold Glenn “Dick” Hurst Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm January 2 at Grayson Funeral Home, Hanover with burial in Hanover Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday at 11:00am until the time of the service.
