Roy Douglas Moreland, Sr.

Doug Moreland, Sr., 75, of Charlestown, IN passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Charlestown Place in New Albany, IN  surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.

Doug was born on November 4, 1947, in Scottsburg, IN the son of the late Leo and Dorcas Wilson Moreland.  He traveled over a million miles as a Long-Haul Truck Driver, finishing his career with Navajo Trucking.  Doug was a member of Marysville Christian Church and was a past president of the Charlestown Little League and Charlestown Band Boosters.  He was an avid Cincinnati Reds and IU Basketball fan and loved fishing, camping, enjoyed cooking and baking, and family gatherings and cookouts.  His biggest joy by far was being Papaw.

Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra Hobson Moreland; children, Doug Moreland, Jr., Scott Moreland, Jennifer Moreland, and Beth Moreland all of Charlestown, IN; grandchildren, Christina Moreland, Brittany Overall, Chastity Terry, Michaela Malone, Taylor Moreland, Sara Moreland, and Jaelyn Moreland; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Hines, Jaxton Terry, Gram Mitchell, Kiyrah Moreland, Toni Renee McKee, Maxwell Smith, and Jersey Brooks; siblings, Wendell Moreland, Gene Moreland, and Arlea Armstrong.  Doug was also survived by brother and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Dale Royer, Margaret Duncan, Ted and Annette Hobson, John and Carla Hobson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frances Singer, Betty Sizemore, and Merrill Moreland; great-grandson, Maverick Dalton Smith; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ted and Dorothy Hobson; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Judy Taylor.

Life celebration service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana with burial in Charlestown Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Grayson Funeral Home.
