On Thursday April 2, 2026, Roy Dale Meredith, 84 passed away at U of L Trauma Center after suffering a fall in his home. Roy was born on July 1, 1941 in Louisville, KY to Russell and Katherine Meredith. Roy graduated from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY on Tuesday, June 9, 1959.

He joined the Navy at 17 years old and served from 1959-1962 on the USS Rankin and the USS Francis Marion ships. He worked on the payroll in the ship's Dispersing Office. His ship, the USS Francis Marion, was one of the ships that was on standby in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served for three years in the U.S. Navy, and his ship was based out of Norfolk, VA. After his service was fulfilled, he went to work for the L&N Railroad, which later became CSX. He worked in Louisville, KY at the L&N building and Osborn Yards, at CSX Jacksonville, FL, and at Watson Yards in Indiana. He also worked for CSX in Brandenburg, KY and Bowling Green, KY. He retired from CSX in February of 2002.

He married Marjorie Elaine Lyon, Louisville, KY, on May 8, 1964 at St. Alban's Church, Louisville, KY. He and Marjorie were married almost 62 years. They had three children: Melody, Frank, and Kevin. They lived in Louisville, KY after they were married for over 12 years and then moved their family to Charlestown, IN in 1976.

Roy was preceded in death by Russell and Katherine Meredith (parents), David Meredith (brother), Ruth and Claud Lyon (mother and father-in-law), Frank E Lyon (brother-in-law), John Peterworth (brother-in-law), and Kevin Roy Meredith (son).

Roy was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by Marjorie, his loving wife of 62 years, his sister, Doris Bowen (Danny), his sister, Linda Morrow (Jerry), his sister, Martha Smith (Chris), and his daughter-in-law Michelle Meredith. He is also survived by his son, Frank Elliot Meredith and his daughter, Melody Ruth Flowers (William), and his sister-in-law Marlene E Lyon. He is survived by grandchildren Angela Meredith, Becky Jackson (Tim), Johnny Lyon (Efren), Robert Roy Flowers (Audrey), Alex Meredith (Jessica), Taylor Meredith, Lea Meredith, Peyton Meredith, and Cammie Marcum (Aaron). His great-grandchildren are Ethan Ray Bridgewater, Raelynn Meredith, Emma Jackson, Lexi Jackson, Eli Elliot Jackson, Wesson Meredith, Remmington Meredith, Jackson Marcum, and Emma Nevaeh Marcum, and numerous nieces and nephews. In his day, he was an avid fisherman, and he always enjoyed swimming, picnics, and taking day trips to different towns. He enjoyed coin collecting and working crossword puzzles, which he was quite good at. He enjoyed going to flea markets and spending time with his family. He was also in bowling leagues in Louisville, KY, and he was quite a good bowler and received many trophies. Roy enjoyed watching Hee Haw, Larry's Diner, and Gaither Gospel Hour on TV, and he loved country music. He will be sorely missed by all.

Roy and Margie attended the Community Presbyterian Church, 1370 Monroe Street, Charlestown, IN 47111. Memorial contributions can be made to the church.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Community Presbyterian Church in Charlestown, IN. Burial will take place in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
