Robert J. Davidson, 83 of Madison, IN passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.
Robert was born on January 11, 1934 in Newton County, IN the son of Vernon “Bunk” and Charlotte Bissenden Davidson Sr. He was the 5th of 10 Children and moved to the area of Paynesville and Saluda when he was a small child.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon Jr., Thomas and William Davidson; sisters, Kate Cooly and Caroline Black. He is survived by his step-sons, Brian Davidson (Kathleen) of Knox, IN and Robert Davidson (Annette) of Vincennes, IN; brother John Davidson of Madison; sisters, Louise Ricketts of Hanover, Lina Betty Davidson of Ft. Wayne, IN and Sara Sacket of Waldorf, MD; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Robert left the Saluda area when he was the age of 15 to work on some large farms in Northern Indiana. He served in the United States Marines, the United States Air Force and the United States Army, and was a Vietnam combat Veteran. Robert was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W Post #1969 and American Legion Post #9. After serving over 20 years in the United States Military and retiring after 18 years at Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN Robert moved back to Madison.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grayson Funeral Home in Hanover, IN with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 11:00 A.M. until the time of services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mt. Zion Cemetery Association in memory of Mr. Davidson.
