Robert Taylor Butler, 66, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on 30 January 2023 surrounded by family. He was born on January 19, 1957, in Jeffersonville, IN. A native of Southern Indiana, he served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce.
He was very active in the community; especially through the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a Scoutmaster through the early 2000s, mentoring countless young men in the community, and guiding many to the rank of Eagle. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. A maintenance man by trade, his true calling was an expert poker and chess player; hard to match with a sharp mind, stone face, and no tells. The only way to really beat him was to put on M*A*S*H* while playing him.
He is loved and will be missed by many. Robert is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Freda Butler; his three parents, Roger and Jeanie Clark, and his father, William Butler.
He is survived by his brother, Dan Butler of Scottsburg IN, and sister, Shelley Schroder of Underwood IN; his children, Destaney Johnson (Bryon) of Scottsburg IN, John Butler (Barbara) of Scottsburg IN, Taylor Butler (Katherine) of Vincennes IN, Pam Miller (Charles) of Crossville TN, and JC Swallows of Crossville, TN. Robert passed away having 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Robert’s wishes were to be cremated and be reunited beside his wife, Freda. The family has chosen the date of burial for August 20, 2023. Grayson Funeral Home will announce details closer to the time of the burial.
