Robert Roy Abbott, Sr. ("Bob")

Robert Roy Abbott, Sr. (“Bob”), 88, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Bob was born to the late Roy and Thelma Abbott at home on the family farm in Charlestown on April 7, 1938. He graduated from Charlestown High School in 1957. He married Lana McCoy on September 2, 1967.

Together, Bob and Lana raised five children: Bobby (Dawn), Diane Rone (Bryan), Kevin (Jennifer), Kurt (Stacey), and Kent (Karen).

They were blessed with grandchildren Chad (who preceded him in death), Amanda Janssen (John), Christy Riley (John), Tiffany Standiford (Andrew), Taylor Steadman (James), John Abbott (Sarah), Karson Abbott (fiancée Lauren), and Kristen Abbott.

Bob’s great-grandchildren are Scotty Riley, Hunter Standiford, Peyton Abbott, Sam Riley, Hadley Standiford, Paislee Steadman, Ty Janssen, Nash Steadman, Lilah Janssen, Kennedy Abbott, and Kora Abbott.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Rone, parents, siblings Dorothy Terry, Jennie Spencer, Jack Hecker.

Bob was the owner and operator of Abbott’s Gulf & BP Service Station in Charlestown. He drove Greater Clark school bus for 40 years. He was a lifetime farmer and an active member of Blue Lick Christian Church.

Bob received care from his family at home along with St. Croix Hospice Service. Bob would be exceptionally proud of his family and especially his granddaughter, Taylor, who offered exceptional end of life care.

Visitation will be at Grayson Funeral Home, 893 High Street, Charlestown from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 17 and again on Monday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with his funeral service at 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery.
