Richard Blackwell

May 12, 1963 — August 5, 2024

Charlestown

Richard Blackwell, 61, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed peacefully in his home on August 5, 2024. He was born on May 12, 1963, in Hamilton, Ohio to his loving parents; Thompson Blackwell and Gracie (Davidson) Blackwell of Charlestown, Indiana.

Richard joyfully attended North Charlestown Church of God, Main Cross Charlestown Church, and Pleasant View Baptist Church of Marysville. He was a retired mechanic and a jack of all trades. He enjoyed a slew of different hobbies and could almost always be found in his garage tinkering on various projects. He loved spending time with his two horses Midnight and Moonlight. Many of his weekends were spent wheeling and dealing at flea markets searching for the best bargain. He also enjoyed the outdoors and went on many camping trips with his family.

Richard’s memory lives on through those survived by him; son, Richard Dalton Blackwell of Charlestown; brothers, Thompson R. Blackwell Jr. of Kentucky, Kenneth (Kathy) Sizemore of Bethlehem, Stevie Blackwell of Charlestown, Marion Edward (Dreama) Blackwell of New Washington, Tommy Ray (Mechelle) Blackwell of Charlestown; sisters, Ruby (James) Griffis of Scottsburg, Diana (Julian) West of Charlestown, Angela (Rick) Coleman of South Carolina, and Tammy (Ron) Stanley of New Washington; step-children, Devon (Spencer) Delepierre of Kentucky, Jacob (Kristina) Blackwell of Underwood, Tristan Blackwell of Charlestown, Hunter (Kirsten) Blackwell of Jeffersonville, John (Megan) Brown of Georgetown, Jedd (Angel) Brown of Sellersburg, and Sarah (Brandon) Lemmon of New Washington; many step-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, many dear family members and friends, and his beloved dog Mater.

In addition to his parents, Richard was welcomed into Heaven by his siblings; brothers, Ray Blackwell of Texas, and Edward Blackwell of Ohio; sisters, Betty Cherry of Marysville, Phyllis Nelson of South Carolina, and a set of twin sisters from South Carolina.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are encouraged to attend your next local church service in honor and memory of Richard, who greatly loved going to church every Sunday and sharing the Word of God. Please look to the following verse for comfort.

Rev 21:4  "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
