Rayburn Lawrence “Doll” “Judge” Anderson, 91, passed away peacefully on 10/13/26, at his home with his family by his side.
Ray was born April 30, 1935, in Butler County, Kentucky, the son of the late Robert and Verdie Anderson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Anderson; his son, Rick; his sisters, Pauline Belcher, Ada McCoy, and Nada Ross; his brothers, Nevel Anderson, Ward Anderson, Rex Anderson, and Marshall Anderson; and his granddaughters, Rachel and Brittney. Ray was the last surviving sibling of his family.
Born and raised in Butler County, Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending part of his service in Germany. After returning home, he moved to Southern Indiana, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. Ray and Carolyn were married on July 30, 1960, and built a life together centered around faith, family, hard work, and service to others.
Ray and Carolyn were lifelong members of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. From 1973 to 1978, they owned and operated the Cash and Carry Store. Ray also worked for General Electric, retiring after 36 years of service.
Ray served his community as City Judge of Charlestown from 1983 to 1987, earning him the nickname “Judge.” His faith was also an important part of his life. He was one of the original members of the Kings Four Gospel Quartet, where he served the Lord through music, singing bass for the group.
Ray was also a 60-year member of Blazing Star Lodge #226, where he was a Master Mason, Third Degree.
When he wasn't working or serving his community, Ray enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved gardening, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
Ray is survived by his son, Alan Anderson (Marian); three grandchildren, Bryan Anderson (Amber), Brandon Anderson (Olivia), and Courtney Cecil (Chris); as well as his beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who all knew and loved him as “Pop.”
Also, a special friend, Juanita “Cookie” Coyle, a lifelong family friend.
Ray leaves behind a life defined by faith, family, service, and love. His voice, his stories, his humor, and the example he set will remain with those who loved him for generations to come.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hosparus Health of Southern Indiana (Amy, Dulci, Amber, McKenna, Vanessa, Taylor, Cindi) for the care, compassion, and support shown to Ray and his family. Truly God sent angels! Also special thanks to his grandson, Bryan and nephew, Marc for their love and help.
