Sellersburg

Randall "Randy" Gene Baird, a beloved father, stepfather, and devoted husband, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 74. Born on April 5, 1951, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Randy was a man known for his lively spirit, affection for machinery, and deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Randy dedicated a significant part of his life to working as a heavy equipment operator, proudly retiring from the Louisville Paving Company. His experience in the industry was enhanced during his service in the United States Army, where he trained as a heavy equipment driver and served as a Medical Corpsman within the USAMEDTC. These roles not only showcased his skills but also reflected his dedication to teamwork and service.

Randy was a passionate follower of IU Basketball, deeply rooted in the traditions that began during the Bobby Knight era. His love for sports was rivaled only by his fondness for his little Blue Heeler, Mattie, with whom he shared countless joyful moments. Described as a wheeler-dealer, he was known for his charming personality and zest for life, always ready for the next adventure that involved a piece of machinery he could ride or a day spent in nature.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever remember his kind heart and unwavering support. Randy is survived by his son, Michael Baird (Tracy); his daughter, Melissa Baird; his stepsons, Michael Lauterbach (Shirley), Rick Lauterbach (Mechelle), and Anthony Lauterbach (Kathy); and his stepdaughter, Lynn Lowe (David), his16 grandchildren, along with his 14 great grandchildren. Each of them carries cherished memories of their time together, inspired by his generosity and spirit.

Randy now joins his late wife, Wanda Mason Baird, and his parents, Dee and Joyce Stricker Baird, along with his brother, Steve Baird, and his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Junie Rochner. Their reunion strengthens the bonds of love that transcend time.

A visitation will be held on July 2, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana. The family invites all who knew and loved Randy to join in celebrating his life and legacy.
