Rachel Bivin (Travis) Pogue

June 17, 1926 — April 27, 2024

Cary, North Carolina

Rachel Bivin (Travis) Pogue, a woman who brightened lives with her warm spirit and gracious heart, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2024 in Cary, North Carolina at the age of 97.

Born on June 17, 1926 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky to Estill and Ruth Travis as an only child. In August 1946, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Hugh William Pogue, in Greenville, Kentucky. The couple soon relocated to Charlestown, Indiana where they built a beautiful life together with their son, Steve, for nearly 50 years until Hugh's passing in 1995.

A devout Christian, Rachel was an active member of First Baptist Church of Charlestown. She cherished her congregational community, rarely missing a Sunday school class or Bible study. Her unwavering faith provided strength during life's challenges.

While homemaking and caring for her family brought Rachel immense joy, she also pursued creative outlets like sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her handcrafted pieces became treasured keepsakes for loved ones. Rachel's community involvement included the local Homemakers club where she formed many cherished friendships.

Above all, Rachel's greatest pleasure came from her role as a loving mother to her son Steve and daughter-in-law Liz, and caring grandmother to Andrew and his wife Ye, Matthew and his wife Katie, and Julia and her husband Tony.  She also adored her great-grandchildren Lawson, Everett and Macie. Her warm hugs and unconditional love deeply enriched their lives.

Rachel's steadfast values, spiritual devotion and unwavering pleasant demeanor allowed her to face each day with inner grace. Her legacy of kindness and living gracefully will continue to inspire all who knew her. We celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the indelible way she touched our hearts.

Friends and family may gather for visitation on Sunday, May 5th from 1-3pm at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown. A private graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Rachel can be made to First Baptist Church of Charlestown.
