With heavy hearts, yet with profound gratitude for a life so fully and warmly lived, we announce the passing of Norma Jean Goodman Meeks, who departed this world on June 21, 2026, in Sellersburg, Indiana, just days after her ninety-sixth birthday. Born on June 4, 1930, in Sullivan, Indiana, Norma wove almost a century’s worth of memories, milestones, and meaning into the hearts of all who knew her.
Norma’s journey was marked by grace, devotion, and extraordinary resilience. Those who stood closest in her life recognize her legacy not merely in years but in the immense love she poured into her family. She is fondly remembered and deeply mourned by her daughters, Connie (Robert) Bueter, Jean Ann (Phillip) Schwab, and Linda Harbin. Norma’s sons, David (Hildegard) Meeks and Daniel Meeks, Sr., continue to carry forth her spirit. Norma also leaves behind the proud legacy of fifteen grandchildren, as well as a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George Goodman and Pauline (Fifer) Kruse, her son Gary Lee Meeks, her siblings Betty Lou Moore and Robert Goodman, and many others whose memories she always carried close.
Norma’s life, rooted in the quiet strength of Sullivan, Indiana, extended across decades and communities. Through joys and trials, her unfaltering commitment to family served as her guiding light. Her legacy will live on—in laughter at family gatherings, in the gentle passing of stories, and in the presence of her descendants, who will ever carry her memory forward.
Norma retired from Phillip Morris as a machine operator, proudly having the highest production daily. She enjoyed spending time with her family and preparing a huge meal to celebrate with them. Norma had a deep care for her dogs, Abby and Paco and the cat, Tom Cat. She enjoyed painting ceramics and spending hours crocheting. A devoted member of Mount Calvary Methodist Church where she continued the family tradition of playing the piano for service like her mother.
As her loved ones mourn her absence, they also honor the richness of her years and the example she offered: one of perseverance, compassion, and unwavering devotion.
She will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated.
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
