Nathaniel C. “Doc” Isler, Jr., 86, of New Washington, IN died on Saturday November 1, 2014 at his home.
He was born on January 17, 1928 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX to Nathaniel C. and Leone Dellinger Isler. He was a member of the 1945 Jeffersonville High School basketball team with a record of 21-3. In the regular season they defeated the eventual state champions of Indiana and Kentucky. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville where he played basketball. He was a member of the Silver Creek Beagle Club and was particularly proud of his champion Camp Creek Beagle. Doc loved farming and was passionate about his herd of registered poled Herefords which he built from 4 head. Mr. Islers' professional career was dedicated to the education and personal development of children. He taught and coached at Parkview Junior High and later was principal of New Washington High School. In addition, Doc coached Little League baseball and served on the 4-H Board. He also worked with Senator Dick Lugar on the committee to screen and endorse U.S. Military Academy Appointees. He was a member of the New Washington Christian Church, American Hereford Association, National Education Assoc., Indiana State Teachers Assoc., and the Clark County Cattlemen’s Assoc.
“Doc” was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Margaret Isler.
Survivors include his daughter; Deborah Isler (Mike) of Charlestown, IN, son; Charlie Isler (Joni) of Jeffersonville, IN, sister; Mary Kay Davis of Hardinsburg, IN, his grandchildren in whom he was intensely proud of their academic, athletic and life achievements, Hobie Crase and Yamsey Crase, niece; Jill McKinley, nephew; David Davis, Jr., cousin; Joan Siewert, caregivers; Lauren Campbell and Joe Boyles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday and after 9 am on Wednesday.
