Michael Neal, born on November 10, 1947, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, in New Albany, Indiana. He led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a commitment to serving his community.
For 42 years, Michael had a fulfilling career as a truck driver, during which he developed deep connections with the roads he traveled and the varied landscapes he crossed. His commitment to helping others extended beyond the highways, as he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Eminence, Kentucky. This role allowed him to be on the front lines, responding to emergencies and supporting those in need, embodying the spirit of service throughout his life.
Michael was a proud veteran who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. His military service deeply influenced his character and instilled in him the values of resilience, camaraderie, and duty.
A graduate of Charlestown High School, Michael carried the lessons learned during his formative years into all aspects of his life. Beyond his professional and military achievements, he cherished the simple joys of life. Michael enjoyed camping, fishing, and attending movies, activities that allowed him to create lasting memories with family and friends. He often spoke fondly of trips to the boat with his uncle Bill, where laughter and camaraderie filled their days.
Michael is survived by his sons John Neal, Mark Neal (Dottie), and Todd Neal (Amy), and his grandchildren, Tierney, Lincoln, Summer, Ethan, Kelsey, Halee, and Bella. He is also remembered fondly by his brother Ronnie Neal, his uncle Bill Cary, and his niece Shannon Everhart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Neal; mother, Marietta Sands; stepfather, Paul Sands; sister, Pat Taylor; and stepmother, Juanita Neal. Each of these individuals left a mark on Michael’s life, shaping the man he became.
Michael Neal will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, kindness, and lifelong devotion to family and service. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the memories shared with those who loved him.
