Mattie Jane Bates, 90, of Charlestown, IN passed away on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN.
She was born on March 3, 1925 in South Down, KY to Arthur and Maudie Taylor Sergent. She was former owner and operator of Bates Grocery and the Charlestown Laundromat and a member of the North Charlestown Church of God.
Survivors include her son; Larry Bates (Jeanette) of Georgetown, IN, grandchildren Tania Howard of Sellersburg, IN and Damon Bates (Tasha) of Nashville, TN, brother; Billy Sergent of Paris Crossing, IN, great-grandchildren; Keslyn Howard of Sellersburg, Mason and Sawyer Bates of Nashville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday and after 9 am on Wednesday.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Providence Retirement Home.
