Mary Virginia (Ochs) Lynn, died peacefully at her home on December 28, 2012.
Mary was born in Wakefield, KY on February 25, 1918. Her mother died when she was 17 months old, and she was raised by her father and grandmother. She graduated from Taylorsville High School when she was 16; this was also when she gained her loving step-mother and role model, Lula Ochs. Mary earned a two year degree from Nazareth Junior College, and then a RN degree from St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Louisville. When World War II began, she volunteered to join the Army, met a handsome dentist, Dr. C.F. Lynn, and married him. Mary was stationed near the English Channel and received some of the first casualties of the Normandy Invasion.
Mary gave birth to four children, and was a terrific wife, mother, and friend. Compassionate and dependable, she volunteered at Red Cross blood drives for decades. A devoted convert to Catholicism, she devoted many hours to church activities and organizations.
Mary and “Doc” enjoyed travel; they went to all 50 states and Europe. Outgoing and talkative, she never met a stranger. Mary loved playing cards. Bridge was her passion; she became a “Life Master.” She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, and her grandson, Jeff Mason.
She is survived by her son, Robert Lynn (Linda) of New Albany, son Ron Lynn (Jo Ann) of Charlestown, son Larry Lynn (Judy) of Charlestown, daughter Sandra Mason (Ted) of New Albany, brother, Curtis Ochs, Jr. (Bonnie) of Bloomfield, KY. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 2 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Charlestown. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1 from 2pm to 8pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, and after 9:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home.
