Mark Steven Howard

Mark Steven ‘Howie’ Howard, 63, of Charlestown, IN. passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025.  He was born on November 10, 1961, in Louisville, KY., to the late James D. and Evangeline Lashley Howard.

Howie followed in his father and brother’s footsteps, becoming a pipe fitting welder.  He was an avid fisherman.  Every spring, he began starting vegetable seedlings for his annual garden, which grew larger and larger each year.  Melissa would help him gather and prepare for them to start canning all the delicious vegetables. He was also known to like a good fire, whether relaxing in the back yard at the fire pit or sitting beside a nice warm fire in the fireplace.  Howie loved experiencing early sunrises and watching the glowing moon to end the day.

In addition to his parents, Howie was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Kramer and Barbara Bernardy.

Howie is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; siblings, David Howard (Janet), Paul Howard, Linda Kelley (Tom), and Glen Howard; brothers-in-law, Kenny Kramer and Keith Bernardy; stepdaughters, Alissa Curtis and Julia Menendez; grandchildren, Alannah, Svea, Iva, Joaquin, Ruby, Silas, Mekhi, and Aubree; several nieces and nephews; along with great nephews and one great niece.

Life Celebration services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, also at the funeral home.
