Marie Jeanette (Hecker) Schafer

Marie Jeanette Schafer 89 of Memphis, IN passed away on Thursday September 23, 2021, at her daughter’s home.

She was born on September 13, 1932, in Hamburg, IN to Orville and Marcella Zipp Hecker.  She graduated Silver Creek High School in 1950 and worked for the Jay C Food Store in Charlestown for approximately 27 years.  She was also a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence “Tom” Schafer, Sr.; daughter, Mary Suzanne Harper; brother, Martin Hecker; sister, Helen Pennington Moore; and half brother, Jack Hecker.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Teresa Anderson (Joseph) of Georgetown, IN, Sharon Hubbard (Wayne) of Charlestown, IN and Joann Ettel (Dennis) of Marysville, IN; son, Larry Schafer (Dina) of Charlestown; grandchildren Larry Hassfurther (Sharon), Jaclyn Johanboeke (Cory), Jeff Hubbard (Elysa), Jessi Shields (JR), Mitchell Anderson (Brittany), Bailey Roberson (Logan), Jordan Burchel (Carrie), Jakob Burchel (Caroline), Michael Harper, Mary Catherine Harper (Ben DeWeese), Sarah Harper (Johnthan Jackson), Makenzie Roederer (Jon), Ethan Schafer and Trey Schafer and 19 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Grayson Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday and from 9:00 am to 9:30 am on Wednesday.
