Marie (Gregory) Broughton

Marie Gregory Broughton, 90 of Charlestown, Indiana, went to be with her Savior on October 6, 2021.  She was born in Knox County, Kentucky, on May 1, 1931.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Nellie (Trent) Gregory; brothers, Herbert, Tom, Robert, Charles, and Fred Gregory; sisters, Nellie Smith, Vada Wilson, Nan Gambrel, Irma Lott, and Joyce Wilson; and her beloved husband of 71 years, Bill Broughton.

Marie was an excellent seamstress, from school clothes to wedding dresses.  She enjoyed reading, working seek-and-find puzzles, and listening to Christian preachers.  She was a good “country” cook and was particularly known for “Broughton burgers”, especially to her children’s friends.  Marie was a dedicated member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she taught children for years.  For her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, she spent hours at baseball and football fields, tennis courts, gymnasiums, band events, and school plays.  However, her utmost goal was to instill in them all an abiding faith in Christ, love for family, and love for others.

Survivors include sons, Roger (Joyce), David, and Bill (Tonya); daughters, Annette Hobson (Ted), Noel Broughton-Miller (Bill), and Melanie Broughton.  Grandsons Will and Carter Broughton, Rob Jenkins (Adrienne), Jake Jenkins (Lisa), Josh Jenkins (Lacie), Kyle and Mason Broughton; granddaughters, Chrissie Homer (Paul), Erin James (Derrick), Billie Vissing (Keith), and Amanda Moore.  Great grandchildren, Emma, Nathaniel, Anndi Jo, Elijah, Carson, Emmett, Brayden, Rylee, Isla, Kyndall, Blakely, Christine, and Katherine.  Marie also had numerous nieces and nephews and friends/loved ones of her family for whom she cared.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Old Salem Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, October 15, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 301 Gospel Road, Charlestown, IN would please Marie.  Her family wishes to thank all of her doctors and caregivers for their compassion and efforts toward quality of life.
