Marianne Thomas

December 16, 1956 — August 7, 2025

Charlestown

Marianne Thomas, a beloved figure in the hearts of many, left this world peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Charlestown, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on December 16, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky, Marianne lived a life filled with warmth, giving, and grace.

A dedicated educator, Marianne earned her Master’s degree in special education and passionately taught at Sellersburg Elementary, where she inspired countless students. Her influence extended beyond the classroom as she coached competitive gymnastics, instilling not only skills but also confidence in her students. She took pride in her accomplishments, particularly in the role of grandmother, cherishing the bonds she created with her grandchildren, Laila Thomas, Jude Thomas, Vincent French, Elijah Boram, and Alyvia Boram.

Marianne had a profound impact on the lives of those around her through her soft spoken personality and unwavering willingness to help others. She encouraged forgiveness and believed in the strength of compassion, a testament to her gracious spirit. Traveling on vacation brought her immense joy, yet it was family gatherings during Christmas that filled her heart with greatest happiness.

An accomplished quilter, she made over a hundred beautiful pieces, each stitched with love and care. She also took delight in caring for her miniature dachshunds, who brought an abundance of joy into her life. Marianne’s love for the game of Bridge led her to earn the rank of Grand Master, showcasing her dedication and skill.

She leaves behind her adoring children, Donnie Thomas (Kelly), April French (Brian), and Rebecca Boram (Mark). Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Sandy Duvall (Greg), who was an important part of her life. Marianne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Donald Thomas, and her parents, Sue Abernathy and Fred Brewer.

In honoring her remarkable life, family and friends are invited to gather at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown for a visitation on August 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place the following day, August 14, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by her burial at Charlestown Cemetery at 2:00 PM.

Marianne Thomas will be deeply missed, but her spirit of kindness and love will continue to illuminate the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy, rooted in compassion and familial love, will forever be cherished.
