Mr. Spriestersbach, 90, passed away on Aug. 25, 2008 at his residence.
He was born on August 19, 1918 on a farm near Charlestown to Julius and Mattie Lutz Spriestersbach. He graduated from Charlestown High School and then attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated with a degree in botany. He then took additional course work at Ohio State University, IUS and the University of Louisville.
He taught science for a short time and then worked as a chemist for a short time. However, he spent most of his life managing the family farm. An avid conservationist he was a member of the Sierra Club, The Wilderness Society, The Nature Conservancy, The International Fund for Animal Welfare, The Humane Society of the USA, and The Clark County Humane Society. For many years he was a active member of the Clark County Farm Bureau.
His 200 acre farm is being left as a farm and nature sanctuary to be used for educational and recreational purposes for young people.
His survivoirs include cousins, Rodney Spriestersbach of Charlestown, IN Anna Mae Wilson of New Albany, IN and Karen Clapp of New Washington, IN.
