Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Jerry G. Knudtson, 86 of Charlestown went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN.
Jerry was born on April 20, 1938, in Aberdeen, Washington the son of Herbert and Louise Krause Knudtson. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in New Albany, Military Officer's organization, American Motorcyclist Organanation, a life member of the NRA, and a Kentucky Colonel. Jerry was a graduate of Fergus Falls High School in Minnesota, and the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Education, and a Master's Degree in Education. After completing the University of North Dakota Reserve Officer Training Program, LTC Knudston was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, USAR (Distinguished Military Graduate), at Fort Lewis, Washington.
Jerry started his working career as a teacher with the Minneapolis, Minnesota Public Schools. In 1969 he entered the U.S. Army Materiel Command Safety Management Intern Training Program. Following completion of this training program, he was employed as a Safety Engineer by the USAMC Field Safety Activity at Charlestown, Indiana, and the Army Proving Ground in Yuma, Arizona. After retirement from federal civil service in 1992, he became a college teacher of Mathematics and Physics at Ivy Tech and IUS where he remained active until 2009 and retired at the age of 70.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Kjersti Milliner and her husband Nick of Charlestown; son Joel Knudtson of Newburg, IN; granddaughter, Andrea Grider; great-grandchildren, Cayden Rogers, Declan Grider, and Hudson Grider. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jean Rae Knudtson on November 15, 2016.
Life Celebration Services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church 1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany, IN with burial in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday after 9:00 A.M. Expressions of Sympathy in memory of Jerry may take the form of a donation to Grace Lutheran Church School.
