Katherine D. (Dean) Smith

Katherine D. Smith, 92, of New Washington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.
Katherine was born on October 11, 1923 to Charles Isaac and Goldie Irene (Stoner) Dean. Katherine was a hard worker all her life. She retired from Grote Manufacturing, worked at the ammunition plant in Charlestown while continuing to operate the family farm and care for her family. She had been a cook at Clifty Falls State Park, Jackson’s 3 in 1, and the Mariott Inn. Upon retirement Katherine took care of the elderly in her home, and owned and operated a flower and gift shop. Katherine enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and excelled at all of them; but her favorite activity was spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester J. Smith; daughter, Judy Reed; sisters, Fern, Belva, and Barbara; brothers, John, and Cecil.
Survivors include her son, Roger W. Smith (Elaine) of Lexington, IN; daughter, Patsy Craig of Madison, IN; grandchildren, Becky Anderson, Bryan Smith, Keith Courtney (Dariel), Kevin Courtney (Cathy), Lester Auxier, and Joel Auxier (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Austin, Brittany, and Erin; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11 am at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington, with burial to follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm, and after 9 am on Saturday.
