JR Jones

JR Jones passed away on July 25, 2026, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the age of 50. Born on August 6, 1975, JR was a cherished husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother whose presence was a source of strength and support to those who knew him.

JR was always ready to cheer on his Kentucky Wildcats in basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs in football, and the New York Yankees in baseball. He enjoyed WWE professional wrestling, spending time sharing his knowledge of sports with not only his children and grandchildren, but all of the players on the New Washington High School baseball team.  JR was also a very talented woodworker who had a contagious sense of humor and could find a smile in anything.

JR is survived by his devoted wife, Tisha Jones, who stood beside him through life’s challenges and joys. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Shirley Jones, and grandmother, Irma Smith, who both played significant roles throughout his life. His legacy continues through his children—Jessica Cherry (Brandon), Ryan Jones (Morgan), Shelby Jones (Will McClellan), and Alex Jones—who remain a testament to his love, guidance, and values. A proud grandfather, JR cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren: Lane Cherry, Kinsley Cherry, Bronx Jones, and Hallie Jones. Their lives have been enhanced by his affection and involvement. His brother, Denny Ray Jones, survives him as well.

JR was also preceded in death by his father, Dennis Jones, whose memory JR carried fondly throughout his life.

Family, friends, and all who wish to pay their respects to JR are invited to attend visitation services at Grayson Funeral Home – Charlestown, located at 893 High Street, Charlestown, IN 47111. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Thursday afternoon,  July 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Brother Jon Talbott officiating.

Throughout his life, JR Jones left an indelible mark on those around him. His unwavering devotion to family, strong character, and the cherished relationships he fostered will be fondly remembered. The community joins together in mourning his loss and celebrating the significant impact he had on all who were fortunate to know him.
