Joseph O. Stein

Joseph O. 'Joe' Stein, 75, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on July 22, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, IN.

Born to Dewey Oscar and Helen Ruth Stein, Joe dedicated a significant portion his life to the family business, Stein Glass Co., which was established in New Albany, IN, in 1939. After taking over the business in 1979, he made the thoughtful decision to retire and entrusted the company to his devoted employees, Tim and Carol Smith.

An enthusiastic golfer, Joe was known for his remarkable achievement of hitting two holes in one during a single round at Valley View Golf Course. His passion for the sport took him to various courses across multiple states. Joe’s educational journey brought him to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Providence, Notre Dame, and Bellarmine Universities, where he cultivated lasting friendships and memories. He was an active member of The Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th Degree) and The New Albany #270 Elks Club, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1973-1974. In his youth, Joe showcased his competitive spirit by winning the inaugural Harvest Homecoming go-kart race and had a commendable high school baseball career.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving parents, his dear wife, Alice Lee Williams-Stein, his grandparents, Deweese and Catherine Stein, and his father-in-law, Charles Minton.

He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children, Susan Leister (David), Gregory Williams, and Bridgett Williams; his grandchildren, Amy Leezer (Joey), Travis Byers, Allison Osterhout (Michael), Zoe, Callie, Phoenix, and Hayden Williams; as well as his great-grandchildren, Reed, Elizabeth, Eli, Eric, Erin, and Zayelyn.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation and funeral services at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, IN, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am until the service begins at 1:00 pm.
