Joseph Raymond Parrott, 79, died peacefully in Orlando, Florida, December 24, 2020, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Joe is survived by his wife, Reva, married for 57 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Deborah (Gary) Olsson, three grandchildren, Faith, Sarah, and Joshua Olsson, of Wixom, Michigan, two brothers, Andy Barnes (Reva) of Springfield, Indiana, and Jack Barnes, Charlestown, Indiana.
Joe was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Barnes, and father, Coleman Parrott, brother, George Parrott, step-brother, Ronald Barnes, and nephew, Kenny Parrott.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Senior Master Sargeant on Sep 1, 1980, after 21 years and 6 months in Administration, to include several awards and medals: Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal With 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; Professional Military Education Ribbon; Army Good Conduct Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal With 3 Stars; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Cluster, Gallantry Cross With Palm Device, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service as postal clerk.
Joe and Reva enjoyed international travel and visited many countries throughout the world. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, 1717 Alliant Ave., Louisville, Ky 40299, and Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio St., Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611.
