John T. Mongold III (Skip), 64, of New Albany, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY following a brief illness.
He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 14, 1947 to John Tanner Mongold II and
Bruce and Geneva Rawlings. In his early years, he graduated from Charlestown High School in 1965, graduated from Vincennes University, served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War, worked for the L & N Railroad for a short while before he realized his dream to become a home builder in Southern Indiana. John was a very successful builder in Southern Indiana for 45 years. He not only took pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during this time. Over the years, his expertise and reputation as a very gifted and talented person, not only in business, but in his various hobbies, made him a very respected and loved man by all of his peers. He was a long time member of the Homebuilders Association of Southern Indiana, and received many awards during his longtime profession. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Charlie Rawlings.
He leaves his wife, Linda (Bybee) Mongold; daughter, Charity Mongold, son, Adam Mongold; his family and many close friends. He is also survived by his brothers, Bruce Rawlings (Vera) of Chicago, IL, Doug Rawlings (Valerie) of Sellersburg, IN, and Mike Rawlings of Charlestown, IN; sisters, Gay Rawlings Broughton (Chris) of Seymour, IN, sister-in-law; Ruth Ann Rawlings of Charlestown, IN; grandson, Tanner Bishop, and granddaughter, Eden Reed. His pallbearers will be: Bruce Rawlings, Doug Rawlings, Mike Rawlings, Adam Mongold, Alan Bybee, Michael Bybee, and Rick Bybee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11am at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, with burial to follow in the Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12pm to 8pm, and after 9am on Saturday.
