John Furnish Ballard 76, of Charlestown, IN passed away on January 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 19, 1945 in Oak Ridge, TN to John Baxter and Frances Furnish Ballard who preceded him in death.
John was a 1964 graduate of Charlestown High School, worked at Ford Motor Company for over 33 years, and attended the First Baptist Church in Charlestown. John served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy. He was an avid yard keeper who was very proud of his ivy and fire bushes. John loved to follow the University of Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Bengals, and he would love to be cheering on the Bengals in the upcoming Super Bowl 56. He served the Charlestown High School Alumni Association for many years including as Vice President in 1980 and 1981, and as President in 1982. He revitalized the Charlestown Civic Center in the early 1990s, and was recognized by Governor Bayh. He also served as an American Red Cross Volunteer, a precinct committee person in Charlestown, and as a member of the Charlestown Police Advisory Board. He was also a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years Pamela Couch Ballard of Charlestown, son Nick Ballard (Amanda) of Charlestown, daughter Abby Newland (Jason) of Lawrenceburg, IN, grandchildren: Evanne Newland, Mikala Newland, Addison Ballard, and Anna Ballard; nieces Patricia Jones, Ricke Gritten, Amelia Couch, and Eden Couch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Ballard, and sisters Marilyn True and Patricia Ballard.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday February 6, 2022 from 3:00-700PM at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown.
