Joann (Jacobs) Lucas

Joann Jacobs Lucas, 79, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on March 10, 2025. Born in Miami, FL on November 22, 1945, to Winifred Jacobs, Joann lived a life filled with kindness, dedication, and love for those around her.

Joann worked as an insurance sales representative until her retirement, after which she moved to Charlestown in 1997. In her retirement, she found joy in working on crossword puzzles, watching the Hallmark Channel, decorating her home for Christmas, and enjoying the beauty of the butterflies that visited her yard.

She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Ida Lucas of Charlestown, IN, cherished friends, and devoted caregivers, Trish and Mariah.

Joann was preceded in death by her mother, her loving husband of 31 years, James Lucas, her sisters Diane Nelson and Ida Jacobs, and her brother C.W. Jacobs.

A woman of compassion, Joann had a giving heart and was passionate about advancing research to treat lung cancer and COPD. To honor her legacy, she contributed to The Willed Body Program at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where her generosity will help further the education and medical advancements in these fields.
