Janie Helton

Janie Helton, a beloved matriarch, strong, independent woman, and cherished friend, passed away on February 14, 2026, in Charlestown, Indiana, following a very brief battle with cancer. Born on August 5, 1957, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Janie brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

She was known for her exceptional cooking, particularly her homemade lasagna, which was Kevin's favorite. An avid fisherman, Janie relished the quiet moments spent by the water, hoping to catch whatever was biting. Her hobbies also included working on jigsaw puzzles and enjoying games on her phone and computer. In her leisure time, Janie could often be found watching 90 Day Fiancé, a pastime that brought her a great deal of amusement.

Janie held a special bond with her grandchildren, playing the Township video game with them. Her love for dining out was evident, as she cherished meals at her favorite restaurants, including Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, and Texas Roadhouse.

Janie is survived by her son, Kevin (Treasure) Helton; grandsons, Kevin (Amanda) Helton, II, and Jacob Helton; sisters, Rosemarie Rawlings, Annemarie Eickholtz, Sally Limp, Margie (Chuck) Coburn, and Tina Pelsor; and her companion, Andy Huttsell, who will surely miss her friendship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Helton; parents, David "Pep" and  Angelena Bower; her son, Bruce Helton; and her grandson, Nathaniel Helton.

Visitation services will be held at Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington, Indiana. The first visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a visitation again on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on the same day, starting at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at New Market Cemetery.
