Listen to Obituary

Janice Lea Stoner, 84, of New Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. Her family finds comfort knowing she is joyfully reunited in the kingdom of Heaven with her sons, Danny and David.

Born October 13, 1941, in Francisco, Indiana, to Roy and Millie McDevitt, Janice was the sixth of seven daughters. The McDevitt family moved to Clark County where she attended Marysville Grade School before moving to New Washington High School. After graduation, she studied at beauty school in New Albany, Indiana, and later worked as a clerk for the Department of Agriculture until retiring in 1990.

On July 22, 1960, Janice married Marvin Leo Stoner. The couple welcomed two sons: Daniel (born 1962) and David (born 1966). Janice found her true calling in caring for her family. The Stoners attended New Hope Community Church, where Janice and Marvin dedicated many years to the Youth Group, leading many memorable outings and trips for their sons and friends. Both Stoner boys played saxophone in the New Washington High School band, where Janice and Marvin also spent many hours volunteering and traveling. Janice’s unwavering love and support continued through her sons’ lives, especially during their battles with cancer. She became a grandmother in 1985 and has since poured endless love and wisdom into her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and any one who needed it along the way. Everyone was always welcome in her home. Her family treasures memories of swimming in her pool, eating her delicious homemade bread, and gathering for holidays throughout the year.

Janice dedicated her life to supporting others. She sat with countless family members and friends through the best and worst moments of their life. Church friends could always count on Janice to drive them to appointments, volunteer for community service, organize a baby shower for someone without family support, or throw a wedding shower on short notice. She loved freely and without hesitation. She had a profound impact on her community with her quiet and steady dedication.

Janice is remembered by her husband of more than 65 years, Marvin Leo Stoner of New Washington; sisters Nancy McDevitt and Kathern Stiles; daughters-in-law Angela Stoner and Rebecca Stoner; grandchildren Warren Stoner, Tessa (Matt) Booth, Joshua (Kari) Wilson, Levi Wilson, Elizabeth (Charlie) Linne, and Shane (Amanda) Wilson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Millie McDevitt; her mother- and father-in-law, Walter and Bessie Stoner; sisters Agnes Burgin, Frieda Pauly, Marie Burns, and Sue Broadus; and her sons, David and Daniel Stoner.
