James M. Steele, 88, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at his home.
He was born on August 14, 1929 to Lloyd and Lizzie (Chenoweth) Steele in Table Grove, IL. He was an Navy Veteran of the Korean War, farmer, plant superintendent for the old St. Joe Paper Company in Louisville, KY, former employee of the old Alton Box Company in IL, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, an avid golfer, and a member of the American Legion Post 335 in Charlestown, IN.
Survivors include his wife the former Nancy Moore of Charlestown, IN; daughters, Liz Brooks (Jeff) of Charlestown, IN, Jo Masingo (Dale) of Marysville, IN, and Jan Coyle (Chris) of Charlestown, IN; son, Jimmy Steele (Cindy) of Jeffersonville, IN; sisters, Mary Helen Hoke of Macomb, IL, and Dorothy Steele of AZ; grandchildren, Kayla Swinney (Nathan), Shelby Gray, Ganon Gray, Megan Brooks, and Shelby Steele, and; great-grandchild, Mylie Swinney.
Private services were held. Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown handling arrangements.
