**Obituary for James William Owens**


James William Owens, age 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Nortons Brownsboro Hospital. Born on March 17, 1946, in Louisville, he was the beloved son of Brasil Owens and Anna Mary Wasson Fries.

Mr. Owens devoted his career to being a Railroad Engineer and was a member of the local Carpenters Union. Known for his remarkable mechanical skills, he enjoyed working cars and various types of engines, particularly Cub Cadet tractors. In addition to his mechanical pursuits, he was a devoted fan of the University of Louisville Men's Basketball team, relished his time at the gambling boat, and enjoyed his Budweiser.

James is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Harrison-Goode and her husband Steve, and Riva Atchison Wilson; his son, Michael Laslie and his wife Darlene; as well as his cherished grandchildren: Trevor, Annalise, Korbin, M. J., Lee, Tabitha, Cole, Devon, Amber, and Brandon, along with several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta Laslie Owens; his parents; and his second father, Charles Fries.

In honor of Mr. Owens' memory, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to ALS. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, 3301 W. State Highway 22, Crestwood, KY 40014 Crestwood, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 1:00 P.M.

James William Owens will be remembered for his loving spirit and the indelible mark he left on the lives of those who knew him.
