James Richard Knoebel, 69, of Charlestown, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home.
He was born on August 30, 1945 to George and Alice (Ferguson) Knoebel in Camp Lejeune, NC. He is an Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, and a native of Madison, IN. He was a retired business manager, he worked for W.R. Grace & Co. for 21 years in New Albany, IN, Metal Sales Mfg. Corp for 12 years in Clarksville, IN, former Charlestown City Judge, Director of Clark County Teen Court in 1999, and the Charlestown Mayor’s Administrative Assistant from 2000-2003. He attended the First United Methodist Church, Charlestown Board of Public Works, Clark County Red Cross Board of Directors, Clark County Youth Programs Board of Directors, Clark County Regional Water & Sewer District member, Charlestown Beautification Community Leader, Charlestown Little League Officer, Lifetime member of the Southern Indiana Umpire Association, Indiana Jaycees Officer, Junior Achievement “Project Business” volunteer, USSSA Softball Umpire, and a member of the Charlestown Booster Club. He is preceded by his father, George “Shaky” Knoebel; mother, Alice Knoebel Zink; brother, Bob Knoebel; sister, Kathy Dahlheim; nephew, Ross Knoebel
Survivors include his wife, Helen(True) Knoebel of Charlestown, IN; sons, Jeffrey Knoebel of Charlestown, IN, and Tony Knoebel (Paula) of Charlestown, IN; daughter, Jo Ann Sawyer (Richard) of Charlestown, IN; sister, Martha Shelton of Jeffersonville, IN; 6 Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 11am to 2pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 7pm at the First United Methodist Church in Charlestown.
