Listen to Obituary

James Donald (Cotton) Harbin, a loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away September 22, 2025, in Sellersburg, Indiana, in the loving arms of family. Don was born July 5, 1938, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Don grew up in Hibernia, Indiana, later moving to Charlestown, Indiana, and eventually retiring in Lexington, Indiana, where he cherished his simple life. Don is well known in Clark County for his small engine repair skills, where he was nothing short of the Greatest of all time. Don opened Clark County Small Engines, where he was the only Wheel Horse Dealer in the area. He was proud, as was his family, of his hard work and dedication to his business and customers.

After retiring, Don continued to stay busy in his shop, working on projects for his friends he had made throughout the years to keep him occupied and thriving. Don could be found most days sitting on his porch, usually with one or more friends or with family reminiscing, or on the phone trying to diagnose lawnmower repair issues for people just needing advice. Don cherished his many friendships and his friends who constantly stopped by to chat or just check on him. Don will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, William W. Harbin, Sr., and Virgie Brison Harbin, three brothers, Junior Harbin, Albert Harbin, and Gary Harbin.

Don is survived by his 3 daughters, Debbie Belcher(Earl), Vicky Street(John) and Teresa Day(Jimmy Kolle), his brother Larry Harbin(Patty), Grandchildren Jeremey VanOver(Rebecca), Ryan Day(Kristy), Tonya Walston(Jeremiah), Erin Hearn(Dereck), Great-Grandson Dakota Vanover, Matthew Walston(Lexie), Caleb Walston, Great-Granddaughter Lillian Vanover, Dee Hearn, and Haley Hearn, Great-Great-Grandchildren Ayla and Mylen as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pop worked 6 days a week until he was 85 years old, doing what he loved! We are always amused by him saying, 'I'm only going to do work and pickups and for my elderly customers'. Retirement and illness were very difficult for Pop. The family would like to extend a thank you to John, Kobe, Rick, Rick, Dakota, Ron, and Barry for consistently stopping in daily and weekly porch sitting and coffee time, which helped him find peace and happiness. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Interim Hospice for helping us keep Pop at our home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 3:00 pm til 8:00 pm at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana. Donations in Don's memory can be made to the INKY Animal Rescue at PO Box 534, Sellersburg, IN 47172
