James Michael Franklin (Bub) was born on November 1st, 1950, in Clark County, Indiana. He was the 2nd born child of a total of 8 children to Herman and Billie Franklin. He was a friend to all and family to most. Bub was well known for his humor, his easy-going way, his love of IU basketball, his epic mowing skills, and his unwavering support of his grandkids and family. He also enjoyed rabbit hunting with his friends and brothers, watching the Cincinnati Reds, and helping out in any way he could. Bub graduated from New Washington High School in 1969 and began his employment at Jeffboat. He retired from Jeffboat after 42 years of dedicated service.
Bub was a lifelong resident of New Washington, where he met the love of his life, Debbie Allen. They married in 1970, and recently they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. Bub and Debbie continued their wedded bliss with the addition of two children, Tisha and Luke, and eventually 3 grandchildren, AJ, Cohen, and Kate. Bub was the greatest husband, father, and grandfather. He attended nearly all his grandchildren’s events, regardless of how boring or exciting they may have been. He was there to support his family. He lived an honorable life, was as dependable as they come, and was a rock for the entire Franklin family.
Bub passed away on September 24th, 2025, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father (Herman Franklin), mother (Billie Franklin), Brother (Tuff Franklin), and brothers-in-law, Quentin Allen and Dennis Stricker.
He is survived by his loving wife Debbie. His daughter, Tisha Briles (Brent Briles), son Luke Franklin (Carrie Franklin), grandkids, AJ Franklin, Kate Franklin, and Cohen Briles. Sister Pat Stricker (Dennis), Sister Bonnie Perkins (Mickey), Sister Peg Hostettler (Greg), Sister Kathy Jones, Brother Dave Franklin (Phila), and Ed Franklin (Lisa). 21 nieces and nephews, and an uncountable number of great nieces and nephews.
